CATHERINE ELLEN O’BRIEN

Catherine received a B.S. in Psychology from Union College and is currently completing her Masters in Psychology at NYU. Her research interests are centered around the relationship between exercise, motivation and affective state. After completing her Masters, Catherine plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology.

JULIA BASSO, PH.D.

Dr. Julia C. Basso has long been interested in the intersection and intercommunication between the brain and body. She received her B.A. from Middlebury College in 2005 with a dual degree in Neuroscience and Dance, after which she went on to complete her Ph.D. in Behavioral and Neural Science at Rutgers University in 2012. Her doctoral research, conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Joan I. Morrell, examined the behavior of and neural substrates underlying the motivation for physical activity in the rodent. In December 2012 she joined the Suzuki Laboratory to investigate the effects of exercise on learning and memory systems of the brain in humans.
Dr. Julia Basso is currently teaching and doing research at Middlebury College.

Dr. Shih-pi Ku received her B.S. in Zoology at National Taiwan University and her M.A. in Neural and Behavioral Science at the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics. She also received her Ph.D. from the department of Neurophysiology at the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics under the supervision of Professor Nikos K. Logothetis. She joined the Suzuki lab as a post-doctoral fellow in the fallof 2011 and is studying the interactions between the hippocampus and striatum during new associative learning.
Dr. Shihi-pi Ku is currently doing a post-doctoral fellowship in Germany

Joyce Ho received her B.S. from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers University in 2013 and completed a major in Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Research with a minor in Biological Sciences. She joined the Suzuki Lab in 2013.
TINA LEE, B.S.
FORMER RESEARCH TECHNICIAN
Tina graduated from New York University as an Honors Scholar with a Bachelor of Science degree in philosophy and psychology. Before she joined the Suzuki lab, Tina, worked in the financial services sector and wasassistant project manager at the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation (JBRF) where she helps to conduct clinical trials testing a novel treatment drug to combat symptoms of pediatric bipolar disorder. She joined the Suzuki lab as lab manager in February of 2015. She plans to pursue a doctoral degree in clinical psychology.

Andrea Shang received her B.A. from Smith College, Northampton MA in 2010, where she completed majors in Psychology, History and German Studies. She began working in the lab in September of 2010.

Ben Steeper graduated with a B.S. in Cognitive Science from University of California, Los Angeles. His senior thesis was in computational biology. He has been a laboratory technician in the Suzuki Lab since 2012.

Ellen Wang graduated with honors from New York University’s College of Arts and Sciences with a major in Biology and a minor in Business. She has worked as a research technician in the Suzuki Lab since 2007, and played a key role in developing the lab’s training protocols based on positive reinforcement. Ellen is currently attending Veterinary school at U.C. Davis.
